2023 UCLA gymnastics schedule announced


UCLA will host four regular-season home gymnastics meets and NCAA regionals in 2023, as well as the Meet the Bruins preseason exhibition on December 15, 2022. Seven of UCLA’s meets will be televised on the Pac-12 network, and the Feb. 3 game in Utah will be televised on ESPN2.

The Bruins’ first home meeting is Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. against Oregon State in a clash between Olympic medalists Jordan Chiles from UCLA and Jade Carey from Oregon State. UCLA will also host Arizona State on Saturday, February 11 at 2 p.m. and Stanford on Sunday, March 5 at noon. The Bruins close out the regular season with a home game against Iowa State on Senior Day Saturday, March 11 at noon.

The NCAA Regionals are coming to UCLA for the first time since 2010. The Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom will host three days of competition from March 29 through April 1. The nine regional teams will kick off on Wednesday, March 29 with a double first-round meet matchup. Two quadruple match semi-finals will take place the following day on Thursday, March 30, with the top two teams from each semi-final advancing to the regional final on Saturday, April 1. The top two teams from the Regional Finals will advance to the NCAA Championship.

UCLA road meets include conference double meets in Washington (January 21), California (February 18) and Arizona (February 26), and three trips to Utah – for the Wasatch Classic in West Valley City, Utah on January 14 against Minnesota and Boise State, a double game against the Utes on February 3 and the Pac-12 championships on March 18.

The Bruins are under the direction of the first-year head coach Janelle McDonald, who came to UCLA after serving as an assistant coach at California from 2019-22. McDonald won two Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) regional assistant coach of the year awards (2020, 2021). Returning gymnasts for the Bruins include Olympians Chiles and Brooklyn Moorsolympic alternate Emma Malabuyoand four-time All-American chae campbell. The four-member freshman class is led by Selena Harris, who was ranked the No. 1 rookie in the nation by College Gym News, and two-time U.S. national team member Ciena Alipio, who won silver at the balance beam at the US Gymnastics Championships in August.
