IMPHAL, Nov 5: Manipur Olympic Association Secretary General Sunil Elangbam has expressed his firm belief that Manipur will successfully win over 100 medals and defend the title of overall champion in the second edition of the Northern Olympics -Is to be held in Shillong by Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
Sunil was speaking to the media at a media event held at the Olympic Association office in Manipur this evening ahead of the zonal games which will feature 18 sports disciplines.
A strong contingent of 460 member states, including officials, will represent Manipur at the Games. The media program was also attended by the State Contingent Chef de Mission, Mr. Rajendra Singh, as well as other key officials from the Manipur Olympic Association.
Manipur men’s and women’s football teams left Imphal yesterday and today respectively, Sunil said while adding that the remaining athletes will leave Imphal for Shillong on November 8.
Clarifying that the athletes in the state will compete in all 18 disciplines for the 254 medals, he said Manipur is expecting a grand finale in the games with the support of the state government, relevant department and sports bodies of State.
Affirming that the Manipur Olympic Association is making diligent efforts to advance the cause of games and sports and uphold the idea of ​​unity and unity, he also called on all sections of society to contribute to the cause. and to ensure the smooth passage of the state contingent.
Regarding organizations that are embroiled in a factional crisis, he said efforts are being made to resolve all issues at the earliest and asked for everyone’s support to help games and sports reach new heights.
With the exception of football, the competition will start from November 10.
