Biado targets second 9-ball gold at Birmingham World Games

CARLO BIADO opens his campaign for a second World Games gold medal as men’s pool action gets underway Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Biado won the men’s 9-ball event in Wroclaw, Poland in 2019 for the country’s first gold medal at the World Games, a sports competition widely played around the world but not on the Olympic schedule.

On Friday, it will be Rubilen Amit’s turn to take part in women’s pool at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom in Birmingham.

Biado, 38, is the defending US Open 9-ball champion and gold medalist in the same event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam last May. He faces Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski in the round of 16 starting at 2 p.m. Alabama time.

Amit, multiple world champion and gold medalist at the SEA Games, has the German Pia Filler as an opponent also in the round of 16 of the women’s 9-ball.

The Philippines have won two gold medals since competing at the 1981 World Games in Santa Clara, California. Junna Tsukii won the second in women’s kumite -50kg karate last Saturday.

Annie Ramirez, in jiu-jitsu on Friday, Philip Delarmino and Leeana Bade in muay on Saturday and Marion Kim Mangrobang, John Chicano and Fernando Caseres also on weekends.
