As part of Delta’s partnership commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Games until the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, the airline is the official sponsor of Team USA with its upcoming participation in the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. . Delta chose to celebrate its role with a special livery, which was painted on one of its Airbus A330-900s, which the airline hinted at on December 16.

“Delta’s mission is to connect people, and nothing brings the world together like the Olympics and Paralympics” -Ed Bastian, CEO, Delta Air Lines

The livery leaked before being teased

On December 16, Delta Air Lines posted a video on its Twitter account, captioning it, “Something big is happening. ” The 11-second video shows close-ups of an airplane being painted, with decals applied. However, the plans are so close that it is not easy to tell the type of aircraft and what the exact design might be.

The tease video would indicate that the plane is some sort of jumbo jet, and the use of the colors red, white, and blue would indicate something quite patriotic, especially with quick glimpses of white stars. However, that is all Delta has been willing to disclose at this time.

However, anyone following the @BoardingPassRO Twitter account or traveling to, from or through Delta’s Atlanta hub could have already seen Delta’s special livery. The Twitter account posted a photo on Dec. 14 showing Team USA‘s large and bold livery, with the A330-900 parked at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta. Sorry Delta! At least this livery leak isn’t going to cause stock market unrest or massive controversy.

About the painted spray

As mentioned by @BoardingPassRO, the A330neo being painted is a registered N411DX -900. According to Planespotters.net, the plane was delivered to Delta in May 2021. Indeed, the plane is actually one of the airline’s newest at just over six months old. Interestingly, data from Planespotters.net also indicates that this jet had a special livery applied from December 2021.

Configured with three classes, the A330-900 has 29 seats in business class, 28 in premium economy class and 224 in economy class.

Before applying its new livery, data from RadarBox.com indicates that the aircraft was on international missions such as Seattle-Tokyo and Seattle-Seoul as well as New York-Tel Aviv and New York-Paris earlier in November. However, for much of November, the jumbo jet appeared to be busier on one particular domestic mission: Seattle-Detriot, making at least nine round trips between the two US cities.

It appears the plane had its livery in early December, as its last tracked flight was on November 29, flying from Detriot to Atlanta. Data from FlightRadar24.com indicates that the N411DX is expected to reposition itself from Atlanta to New York tomorrow, and then operate a New York-Amsterdam service later today.

With Delta’s status as the official airline of LA28 and the United States team effective January 1, 2021, the airline will also sponsor the national team for other Olympics. This includes Beijing 2022, Paris 2024, Milan Cortina 2026. So we can expect to see more special liveries coming from Delta in the years to come!
