PHILADELPHIA — Actions speak louder than words when it comes to the NFL and personnel plans.

Saturday night after the 2022 NFL Draft, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman ignored all evidence to the contrary and doubled down on Jalen Reagor’s future in Philadelphia.

“Jalen Reagor is a Philadelphia Eagle and he’s going to be here,” Roseman said of the beleaguered 2020 first-round pick. “We want to have good players in this room and good players on this team.

“He’s worked extremely hard to get in shape and get into this offseason program, and now he has an opportunity. We don’t expect anything to change.”

These are the words. Now let’s move on to actions.

Even before the Eagles acquired two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver AJ Brown on Thursday night, Nick Sirianni and the organization had turned to trumpeting fast third-year option Quez Watkins and free agent pickup Zach. Pascal, a longtime favorite of Sirianni. of Indianapolis, complementing DeVonta Smith forward Reagor, 23, when discussing the offense and projections for the future.

With Brown now in the mix, that would put Reagor at WR5 at best, a far cry from where Roseman thought he would be at this point when the Eagles selected him 21st overall in the 2020 draft, one spot ahead of the Minnesota. starring Justin Jefferson.

More so, a fifth WR would typically be asked to assist significantly on special teams and even though Reagor did that last season as the team’s primary returner on punts and kicks , it’s also clear the Eagles were looking for an upgrade there.

The team did some major homework on dynamic running back Marcus Jones from Houston, who ended up going to the third round in New England. Philadelphia also signed Olympic Hurdler Devon Allen, who just won the 110m hurdles in record time at the Penn Relays this weekend with a record time of 13.11, breaking the meet record since 1998 and setting the new global benchmark this year.

The Eagles then agreed to terms with Utah’s undrafted punt returner Britain Covey on Saturday night. Covey holds the Utes career records for punt returns (92), punt return yards (1,092) and punt return touchdowns (4).

In two seasons, Reagor has racked up just 64 receptions for 695 yards and three touchdowns.

From a business perspective, the Eagles don’t want to release Reagor because it would cost more to cut him than to keep him on the 2022 salary cap and there is still hope that an organization that loved Reagor in the 2020 project process could take. the restoration project.

Reagor recently cleaned his social media accounts of any Eagles reference and would certainly welcome a trade at this point.

An NFL source claimed that Roseman is awaiting a third-round pick or a fourth-and-sixth, which seems like pie in the sky, which means Reagor remains in stasis as a team member but… is not expected to contribute.
