NJ Devils announcer quits



Steve Cangialosi, the award-winning broadcaster and television voice of the New Jersey Devils for the past 11 seasons, is stepping down as the team’s play-by-play announcer.

Cangialosi’s distinctive voice, hailing from Queens, has provided a soundtrack to many of the Devils’ greatest moments over the past decade.

Cangialosi started as a sideline host and reporter in 2006 before becoming lead announcer in 2011, replacing legendary Hall of Fame broadcaster Doc Emrick. Cangialosi worked alongside Devils legend Chico Resch in the stand until 2014, when Ken Daneyko took over as color commentator alongside Cangialosi.

“Steve has informed us of his decision to step down as the MSG Networks Devils play-by-play announcer beginning next season,” MSG Networks said in a statement. “We will certainly miss his calls after eleven wonderful years in this role and sixteen years as part of the Devils broadcasts on our networks. We look forward to Steve continuing as the play-by-play voice for our Red Bulls TV shows this season.”

Cangialosi will remain the voice of the Red Bulls, who just started a new season in February. He has also been the voice of football at international soccer matches and contributed to several Olympic games.

“The New Jersey Devils are a first-class organization, and it has been a privilege to serve as the club’s spokesperson for 11 seasons and to be affiliated with Devils hockey on MSG Networks for 16 years,” Cangialosi said in a statement. a statement. “The memories and friendships I made with our amazing MSG Devils team, and of course the fans, will last even longer and I’m grateful for that.”
