On Friday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina distributed the Sheikh Kamal-2022 National Sports Council Award to nine sports personalities and two organizations for their outstanding contribution to the country’s sports in seven categories.
Prime Minister joined freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal’s 73rd birthday celebration and awards ceremony at the city’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium via virtual platform from her official residence Ganobhaban.
On his behalf, Minister of State for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel presented the awards among the recipients.

Veteran sports organizer Harunur Rashid received the lifetime award, while Liton Kumar Das (cricket), Abdullah Hel Baki (shooting) and Molla Sabira Sultana (weightlifting) received the award in the sports personality category.
Diya Siddique (archery) and Mohammad Shariful Islam (cricket) received the award as emerging athletes.
Saidur Rahman Patel and Nazma Shamim received the award in the sports organizer category, while Kashinath Bashak in the sports journalism category, Bangladesh Olympic Association in the sports association/federation/organization category and Green Delta Insurance Company Limited in the sports sponsor.

Each winner received Tk one lakh, crest and certificate.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports introduced the award last year to mark the birthday of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Nation Father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Kamal was shot dead when disgruntled forces murdered Bangabandhu along with most of the Bangladeshi architect’s family members on August 15, 1975 at his residence at 32 Dhanmandi.
